Color Guard

The Summit High School Colorguard is an award-winning program of excellence. Members of this team learn the importance of a great work ethic, time management skills, a high self-esteem, grit, friendships, and satisfaction through hard work and dedication. The colorguard is the most visually impactful team on the football field are are vital to the success of the band program.

Modern colorguard is a combination of the manipulation of flags, sabers, wooden rifles, and props combined with dance and interpretive movement. Our high school and middle school guard programs have worked hard to become a nationally known talent, and our members are extremely dedicated in their commitment to excellence.

We would like to continue to grow our program by building community awareness of our fantastic members and participation and that starts with you! Workshops typically happen in May and no experience is necessary; all you need is good grades (must meet UIL academic requirements to perform), and a fantastic attitude to be a part of this organization based on excellence. Color Guard Seasons

Summer and Fall

The Summit High School Colorguard rehearses and performs as a part of the Summit High School Marching Band. Rehearsals begin in July, and continue through the end of October. The Colorguard performs at all Varsity football games and marching contests throughout the Fall season.

Winter

In November, the program focus turns to Winter Guard. Winter Guard concentrates on performing a unique 4-6 minute show indoors and competing against other colorguard teams. Winter guard can even be continued after school by participating in Drum and Bugle Corps (www.dci.org) and independent regional winter guards around the country (www.wgi.org).

Our Units compete in two winter guard circuits similar to marching band:  a local called the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) and a International circuit called Winter Guard International (WGI).
