💼Old Business💼
**still have one spot open** New Booster Board Leadership and Open Positions
Almost completed
Last Update I informed everyone on a couple of positions that have opened on the board. I would like to thankRoy Hayhurstfor stepping up and taking over the social media accounts, andDarlene Lozadafor taking one of the board positions. If you are still interested in joining the board and help the program run smoothly, contact myself and/or Amy Garcia at summitbandprez@gmail.com

**Still need help with this** 2023 Fall Show Props
Not completed
Still need a volunteer for this. I would like to use that prop that sitting outside the pod on thebandgrid. I just need someone to go out there and tell me if the prop is salvageable, if it will fit in a box truck, about how much it might cost to restore, and if the motor/ elevator on the prop still works.
Shoot me an email if you can help with that. Thanks!

**Basket Information Coming This Week** Silent Auction Items for the Jazz Dinner Dance
If you know of a business that would donate to our Jazz Dinner Dance silent auction, please let Amy Garcia know (summitbandprez@gmail.com) We would like to get as many items as possible to select from for a successful night. We are still planning to do the section baskets – more information on that next week – but I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone has some connections

💼New Business💼
Sectionals starting after TMEA
A sectional calendar will be out this week on the BAND app. Sectionals will last for about 1 hour after school once a week. In an effort to keep the calendar somewhat clean, we will NOT be putting the sectional schedule on the main calendar, but will instead be communicated to the students and posted on the BAND app.

🚩First Colorguard Contest at Lamar HS (2/4/23)🚩
Please see the following message from Sam regarding the upcoming Winterguard contest at Lamar HS:

Good afternoon/morning/evening,

Winter guard contest season is upon us! We are super proud of the work the kids have put into each of their winter guard shows. We hope that you come out to support all of our fabulous students. Our first contest is thisSaturday, February 4, 2023, at Lamar HS

Spectator admission is $15.00 for adults, children 7 and under are free, and children aged 8 through High School (HS – with Student ID) are $5.00 for front-side seating. Contest location and performance times for each group are listed below – please be aware that performance times are subject to change; we will send updated performance times as they become available. We a tentative itinerary with a more detailed look at our day that will be posted on the BAND app; an updated itinerary will be posted to our BandApp page once final performance times are posted.

We have encouraged all students to add you to our winter guard BandApp which we use to push out information about contests and rehearsal schedule updates. You can scan the QR code below to join!

We are also in need of volunteers for the following – sign-ups are located below:

    • Floor crew– we need band students to sign up to be a member of the floor crew. These students are vital to the success of our shows. Just like in the fall, performances are timed; we have a limited amount of time to enter the performance gym, pull the tarp, set up props, perform, and exit. Having

    • Parent chaperones – we will need parent chaperones for each contest. Chaperones will be given a badge allowing them access to the competition for the day. Students are mostly self-sufficient, but due to the nature of the contest schedule, they sometimes require extra help.

    • Truck driver – we will need a parent volunteer (or two) to drive the floor and prop truck. The truck will follow the bus to contests; truck volunteers will also be given a badge allowing them access to the competition for the day.

    • Snack/meal help – we are looking for parents to help provide snacks as well as sack breakfast we can give to the kids at each contest.

💰Fundraising Corner💰
Decision Made: Coupon Digital Coupon Book
Thanks for voting on the parent page! After next week – when the teachers get back from TMEA, I’ll be asking all students to come up with 10-20 emails and/or phone numbers of family, friends, community members, etc to receive the fundraiser information. The good thing about this – once your student puts in these numbers/emails, most of the work is done for the fall when we do our donation drive. Students would just need to update/add/subtract numbers, but most of the work will be done for them. Students may still have this list of numbers/emails on their phone from the WiddyUp fundraiser.
The other cool thing, if people decide to renew their subscription to this coupon book, we will still get the profit from it, even years down the line. This should be pretty painless. All we have to do is add the numbers, and then we’re done.easy.
Here’s the why: Not only do we need to pay this year’s bills, we need to raise funds for winterguard props, instructional staff, masterclass teachers, lesson scholarships, marchingbandprops (STATE YEAR!), show design, instruments, and so much more. Here are some documents that were made by the Vertical Raise People (also attached)

Marching Season Competition Schedule
I know I said I would talk about the staff’s decision about not attending a BOA show next year. We typically want to go to a BOA show later in the season in order to get quality comments on a show that is as complete as possible. With state now every year – our Area Competition is one week later than it was last year which leaves 10/21 as an open weekend. There are no BOA shows in our area that weekend.
We also had the option of going to a BOA show on 10/14, but as a staff, we felt like it would be better to get a run or two in the Birdville Stadium at their contest before we have our Area contest there a couple weeks later so we’re super comfortable for Area – which would/could qualify us for state. If there is a BOA show that pops up, we will go. We as a staff want to go to BOA shows, it just doesn’t really work out in our calendar this year. Below is the tentative contest calendar:
Sat. 9/23: Mansfield
Sat. 9/30: Wylie
Sat. 10/7: March-a-thon
Fri. 10/13: Possible Pre-UIL
Sat. 10/14: Birdville
Tu. 10/17: Region
Sat. 10/21: Saturday rehearsal with clinician
Sat. 10/28: 5A Area at Birdville
Mon. – Wed. 11/6-11/8: 5A State Marching Contest in San Antonio

Jazz Dinner Dance Baskets
I actually just posted this on the BANDapp, but I wanted to get it in your emails as well. This is an important fundraiser which will help the band pay the initial deposits for next year’s marching show, and fund band banquet/Senior scholarships. The quality and extent to which we are able to continue to pay for these is dependent on how this fundraiser goes.

The two ways we make money for this fundraiser are through ticket sales, and our silent auction. The picture on this post has themed baskets for each section. Please consider donating items so we can have a successful event! Also, this is the last opportunity to earn volunteer points to offset the final activity fee #2 payment. Starting after Spring Break, any student who has not earned 10 volunteer points will need to pay the $140 activity fee #2 fee. See below for the donation list:
