TMEA Convention / All-State Concert
Wow! Wow! Wow! These kids… capable of some amazing things. As you know, our own Alan Garcia, Joseph Fondren, Mauricio Cruz, and Iniquez Rusk rehearsed and performed this past weekend at TMEA and it was exceptional. They endured almost 22 hours of rehearsal over four days with an outstanding conductor to put on a 50 minute concert that was phenomenal. I could go on and on about this, but all I have to say is something that we already know – we have some amazing students here at Summit High School.

Jazz Dinner and Silent Auction

Saturday, March 4, 2023

Dear Summit Band and Colorguard Parents,

You are cordially invited to attend the annual Jazz Dinner and Silent Auction! Entertainment will be provided by our own Summit Jazz Band and the Wester Middle School Jazz band. We’re planning an entertaining evening of great music, dinner with friends and fun items to win in our Silent Auction. So, please join us to support this annual Summit High School Jaguar Band fundraiser!

We need your help:

  • Donate a quality item that fits the ‘theme’ basket assigned to your student. This is a fundraiser that benefits the ENTIREband, and every member is asked to donate an item (valued at $20 or more) to be used in the silent auction. As a thank you, you’ll receive a point toward your student’s activity fee. Contributions can be left in the appropriate boxes in the band hall. Small items or gift cards can be placed in the Boosters’ white mailbox. Please label donations with your student’s name and section. Donations are suggested on the attached list and are due by end of school on Friday, February 24.

  • Contact businesses you frequent and ask for a donation for our silent auction. Summit Band Boosters is a non-profit organization and donations are a tax write-off.  The donation letter is attached.

  • Donate something of value from your family: a basket of goodies, an unused gift, a service you or your family could provide (lawn services, photography), tickets, timeshare opportunities or other items someone might enjoy.

  • We also need donations of empty LARGE BASKETS to display the auction items.

To Purchase Tickets:

Tickets are $15 per person ($145 per reserved table of 8). The $15 ticket includes dinner. There are $5 tickets available for those who come just for the entertainment. Desserts will be offered for a cash donation. You do not have to have a Jazz Band musician to join in the fun and support the band! This is a family-friendly event, and we are looking forward to having a great time. Tickets will either be sent home with students or can be picked up at the entry way the night of the event.

Tickets will be sold after school in the band hall on February 23 and 27. Order forms and payment can be placed in the Band Boosters’ white mailbox located near the band office until the end of school on Tuesday, February 28.

It’s not too late to volunteer! Watch for a sign-up email. If you have any questions, please call us. We look forward to seeing you there and having a memorable night!

Sincerely,

The Band Boosters

8th Grade Parent Night
2/16/23, 6:00-7:30
This doesn’t really involve any of us in the program (except the drum majors who were asked to work the table with us). But if you know of any incoming 8th grade parent that may have questions for us, or perhaps go to Wester or a different middle school, we’ll have a table set up with handouts of upcoming dates, estimated fees for next year, and maybe some cookies 😄

Summit HS Ensemble Concert
2/21/23, 6:00-8:00
This event is run just like last year. Woodwinds in the PAC, brass in the band hall. This concert is a “come and go as you please” sort of event for the audience. Parents/friends/family can come watch just their students’ group, all groups, several groups, it’s all up to you. A detailed schedule will be released later this week for students but generally, Concert Band members will go first (at around 6:00), Wind Ensemble members will go around 6:30, and Wind Symphony members will go around 7:15. We hope to see you all there!

A full schedule will be released later this week. Just like the Ensemble Concert, Concert Band members will go first, followed by Wind Ensemble, and finally Wind Symphony. This event will have time slots, and an outside judge during the performance. We’ll have Mrs. Benecasa from Martin High School judging the woodwinds, and Mr. Hervey from Arlington High School judging the brass. The “best” woodwind and brass ensemble will be asked to play at the Spring Concert!

Mini Update on 2/14/23
Hey Jag Band Family,
The Vertical Raise Fundraiser is a GO! We had a representative from Vertical Raise come in a set up the fundraiser with the students today and this is WAY more user friendly than WiddyUp or FanPledge. We’re hoping it looks good on your end as well. Here’s what we need:
Everyone this week gets at least 10 good phone numbers and 20 good emails put in their profile. Older people like email. Younger people like texts. Try to have a good mix. Yes, you can put more than that in, and yes you can even share on social media. We will be following up with students daily to make sure we can get this done. Many hands make light work.

What I told the students today:
  • Setting up your fundraiser profile now will make our lives easier for the future. This profile will directly link to our donation drive fundraiser next marching season. We would then only have to set up freshmen next year!
  • This fundraiser will help me decide band fees for the coming year.
  • I want to do two fundraisers a year starting next year. This one in Jan/Feb, and a donation drive in July/August. If it feels like we have been fundraising a lot this year, you are right. Ido notwant to continue that in the future. Without too much detail, there are some things we had to pay for from last year that ate into our budget this year.
  • Seniors can give back by helping the program that has given a lot to them. If you are able to get a person to subscribe to the coupon book and that person re-subscribes, the program gets that money automatically, and you get that satisfaction of leaving a little legacy.
  • Many, many other things – you can ask your student about it.
Students, if you missed today, here are some instructions on what to do in order to set up your Vertical raise profile (attached as well in case the picture below looks terrible).
Also, in just this small amount of time this fundraiser has been up and running, we have raised $1,245! So again friends, if we could all just do our part and share with friends, community members, and family, we can easily raise 5, 10, maybe $15,000! I personally will be reaching out to the alumni of the program as well to see if they would like to give back.

Looking forward to a successful fundraiser!
